Katherine Kerr? Who is that? Let me tell you about this beautiful human. Katherine usually goes by Kat. Kat is easier for kids to say. Kat is a person who has seen the ugly of the world, at a far too young age. She has lost herself, hit rock bottom and did not want to see another tomorrow, multiple times.

But oh, do not get confused. She is so much more than that. It is Kats’ beautiful heart that sets her apart.

I invite you to take a deeper dive with me and learn, who Katherine Kerr really is.

First, we will explore some of hardships that make up this beautiful soul, and then, we will explore all of the amazing endeavours Kat has been able to create for herself, all while breaking to the core.

Kat was adopted at birth. Adoptions are such beautiful gifts to give to helpless children, such as Kat. However, with that, comes its’ own set of challenges.

At the age of 7, Kat learned what mental illnesses truly were. She grew up with a very sick brother, causing her to carry a guilt that has never been hers to carry.

Her adoptive parents tried their best, but in turn, she was often left to figure things out on her own.

17. The year that Kats’ life changed forever. She started dating the captain of a hockey team for 3 years- a big achievement at that age. Little did she know that relationship would turn out to be the fight for her life... literally. At the age of 17, Kat fell victim to severe domestic violence. A crime she did not yet understand let alone, think would ever happen to her. Despite turning to her local police department with multiple pieces of evidence- no one helped her. No one protected her. They just protected him.

Her abuser is now a working member of her towns police force.

One day before Kat turned 21, she got into a serious mountain biking accident at Whistler Bike Park, resulting in 2 shoulder surgeries and a serious head injury. Kat does not know how to mountain bike. She just stopped caring.

At the age of 23, Kat was diagnosed with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

But then at a courageous turn of events, at the age of 24, Kat had the appointment in which the doctors told her she no longer beats the diagnostic criteria for CPTSD anymore. Meaning she has officially beat CPTSD, before the age of 25. Heck yeah!

Kat has been down, and Kat has been broken. But her heart has never gone cold.

Following her abusive relationship, she decided to flow her sadness into something so wonderful and fulfilling- Traveling the world and working with children. She realized that she cannot control what happened to her in her childhood, but she can control if she makes a positive impact on other kids.

So, she did just that. She packed up everything and moved all the way from St. John’s Newfoundland to Milan Italy at the age of 19, on her own without knowing the language, to work as an Au Pair.

Kat has gone on to live in New York City, Vancouver BC, Whistler BC, Quebec and, Venice Italy.

This girl has been able to create and succeed in opportunities’, most only dream of. All while faced with weights a child should never have to carry.

Her story speaks for itself. But is it her heart that is really to be treasured. She has had every reason to give up, yet she is motivated to inspire and help others.

Katherine Kerr is not just strong. She has a profound sense of resiliency.
